Engine Tips & Troubleshooting

 

* Check your valves at 15-20 hour intervals. Correctly adjusting your valves can greatly improve the life of your valves and can improve performance.

* Change your oil at 2-6 hour intervals, depending on your bike and oil type. Remember that oil is cheap and it is the life and blood of your engine.

* Change your air filter after every ride. Dirt is a 4-stroke's worst enemy.

* Keep your pressure washer away from your carb.

* Change piston & rings at 20-30 hour intervals on a 250F, and at 30-60 hour intervals on a 450F. This will vary from bike to bike, rider to rider.

* Yamaha owners: replace your cam chain at least once a year. This is a weak part on Yamaha's and if left untouched can require replacing cams & crank.

* Top End Rebuild........................$200
(includes honing cylinder, install piston & rings, adjust valves, check cam chain & clutch)

* Split Cases................................$350
(transmission repair, replace crank)
(includes top end rebuild services, replacing transmission, gears, bearings, crank, etc.)

* Clutch Basket Replacement........$35
(includes transferring OEM components onto after-market basket)

2 Stroke:

* Top End Rebuild(in bike)..........$150

* Split Case..................................$250
